In a world where music is increasingly overtaken with the usual suspects, it's refreshing when an up-and-coming rock group keeps the music diverse from the beginning to the end of their set. Soulicit came through Baltimore's Ramshead Live with a solid lineup of music and a solid, lively stage show. This was a show good enough to get even the bar-flowers over to the stage without being prompted. The band members write from the heart with lyrics that are relatable and thankfully, about things like having fun, enjoying life and hookin' up as opposed to the popular trend of lyrics centering around breakups, ex's, and other depressing music.

The drummer brings a driving groove laced with high energy and tasteful fills. You can tell by watching that he's having as much fun as the crowd with his ever present smile and energy. The sound is well rounded out with their guitarist and bassist, adding a complimentary punch of power to the lineup. Especially enjoyable was the Aerosmith medley in the middle of the set.

I appreciated the band checking out the locals and being part of the crowd. I can never say enough for larger bands who take the time to show support for their openers. In a town like Baltimore, where we treat our locals like family, it was nice to see them interact as members of the crowd for the home team. They even found some Annapolis sailors earlier in the day and gave them passes to come in and check out the show just for serving. Hell Yeah.

You can rock out to Soulicit's single from their album Parking Lot Rockstar on Octane, channel 37, via Sirius satellite radio, a true-story tune about a high speed police chase told from the perspective of the perpetrator. You can also check them out in all the usual internet avenues, and at www.soulicit.com
