Alright so of all the holidays out of the year, Valentine's Day is my least favorite. Is it because I'm single and have noone to call my Valentine? Not entirely. I dislike it for a few reasons. One, for short, it's called VD. Who likes VD? Nobody that I know. Secondly, what about the people who have birthdays on Valentine's Day, like my friend Adriana? What a rip-off. I mean, think about it...it's YOUR birthday but you still have to get your sweetheart a little something? And last, I think if you love someone, you should show them everyday. Why pick just one day out of the year to show someone how much you care? Does this give the screw up's a free pass to try and make up for all the wrong they've done the other 364 days of the year? Is THIS why love songs are written? I mean, obviously love isn't always so glorious. As Nazareth has taught us, "Love Hurts". Or in Def Leppard's words, "Love Bites". Or if you ask J. Geils and his band, "Love Stinks". Sometimes, it can even drive someone so insane that they murder someone, like in Motley Crue's "You're All I Need", or Guns N Roses "Used to Love Her", or even newer versions of the songs I mentioned, like Avenged Sevenfold's "A Little Piece of Heaven". (Sorry A7X fans, as much as I love them, everytime I hear that song it reminds me of something I've heard before, only with better, more descriptive lyrics.) I grew up in the era of "mix tapes". (Which, for the young 'ens reading, that was when someone liked or loved someone so much, the only way they could tell them was to make a cassette tape of a bunch of songs that told how they felt. And if you don't know what a cassette tape is, you're just going to have to Google it.) Believe me when I say, I endured more than my share of silly, sappy, worn out love songs, or songs that would seemingly be a love song, until you actually decipher the lyrics. Which leads me to ask you people, do you have a favorite or least favorite "love song"? I want to know them all. Give me your sad, your sappy, your tear-jerkers, your cheesy and your hate filled. Give me the song you first danced with your sweetheart to, or the song your burned their pictures to. Tell me the song you were listening to when you first realized you were falling madly in (or out of) love with someone. I have my list of songs I'll never listen to again. Do you? Let's hear 'em! Leave me comments of your favorite or least favorite "love song". |

It pretty much sums up being single on Valentine's Day.
