Vince Anderson

Vince Anderson

Vince has been publishing since 1989 with Steve Higgs. Vince and Steve started their first publication, The East Coast Rock Report, their first interview was with Kelly Nickles from L.A. Guns. While publishing ECRR with Steve the pair were approached by Sue Hodges, Karen Wildberger and Joanna Jackson from Rox Magazine, wanting to team up and start a new, better publication, Shockwave was born in February of 1990 featuring Child's Play on the cover. From there Vince and Shockwave carried on with different people coming and going doing interviews with some of Rock's biggest names like Pearl Jam and Metallica. Vince finally took some time off until 2003 when former Shockwave writer / editor Joe Baldwin called Vince to start a new publication which was called Undisputed Magazine. This ran through 2004...Joe became disillusioned and Vince started shockwavemagazine.com up while the pair decided what would become of Undisputed. Ultimately Vince started back up the print version of Shockwave as well as the web, re-united with his original business partner Higgs and have been the only music magazine known in the Baltimore, Maryland area for it's national and regional interviews with today's biggest names. Vince and Shockwave have appeared on 98 Rock numerous times and have built relationships with venues such as Sinix, Rams Head Live and Bourbon Street. Vince has also built relationships with Renegade TV (Fox 45), Baltimore Sound Management (promoter), Payne Productions (video show)and too many more to mention. Vince has been writing and Publishing for a long time and has no intentions to stop now...And why should he? Shockwave is growing so stay tuned.

Justus Steel

Justus Steel

Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon. He was produced in a two-stage process. First iron ore was smelted with coke and limestone in a blast furnace, producing molten iron. In the second stage, impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus were removed and alloying elements such as nickel and chromium were added. Steel was then cast into 6'2, 220 lbs of METAL.

It's really not easy to talk about yourself without feeling vain but I'll give it a shot. To quote Russel Hammond (played by Billy Crudup) in one of my favorite movies, 'Almost Famous', "I dig music." Plain and simple. I grew up with a Mom who loved country music and a Dad who spoon-fed me the Beatles, Stones and Zeppelin. Somehow I ended up being a metal head more than anything. I listen to all types of music, don't get me wrong, but if someone pointed a gun to my head and made me choose a genre, I'd say METAL. Oh and I'd probably scream Slayer afterward...just cause I like to scream Slayer sometimes. When I'm not with my kids, I can be found at a local metal show. Supporting local music is something I do, and do well I might add. I'm Christie Gerber, Shockwave's resident trouble maker, music reviewer, eye batter, gum chewer, call maker, bitcher, and partner in crime to Mikey Rocha. See ya 'round...

Well I was told to sum myself up in a few words...which won't happen! So here goes me in a nutshell:
I'm really just your resident music junkie. I breathe all aspects of it. I was brought up on a healthy diet of Ozzy, Sepultura, N.W.A., Misfits, Bob Marley, and Louie Armstrong; just to name a few. You can catch me at all the clubs around Baltimore. I support local music, and love to have fun with the best of them. I've a lot of experience in the scene. I started out MCing at Mac's (now Sinix) I also managed the local band Eightball Hemhorrage for over a year. I was also partnered with Windsor Promotion based in Southern MD. Like my partner in crime Christie, I'm a resident trouble maker, music reviewer, and sometimes get caught with my pants down...which sometimes can get me into fun trouble, but that's what I'm used to! So people when you see me let's all have a good time, and have great music exposed to the masses, and above all...avoid DRAMA! See ya'll on the flipside!

I have been apart of Shockwave Magazine in some form or fashion for 2 years. This is what I consider my play time, however my day job consist of being a Mission Support Supervisor for individuals that test military equipment, as we blow shit up every day. I am also an explosives technician, as I have been in the USAF for 17 years (MSgt) and worked as an AMMO DAWG. The other project that I have going on is my band BREECH, I am the vocalist, which has been playing out around Maryland and Pennsylvania for nearly 3 years now. All this great stuff gets squeezed into what little free time I can muster because most importantly I have 3 of the most kick ass kids a Dad could want. Dante', Venice, Mateo, Dad loves ya. And oh yeah! Don't let me fail to mention I am married to a hot ass milf named Jess. So in short; I blow shit up and shoot guns all day, sing my ass off in a kick ass hard rock band, write and do photo for the premiere music magazine of Maryland...Shockwave, play dad to 3 kick ass kids, and bang a hot chick. What else could I ask for?....Nothing....well ... except for some damn sleep.

Johnnie Vrana

Johnnie Vrana is an entrepreneur, Metal Däd and life-long music fan. I hail from one of the most diverse places on Earth, Malaysia (err no, we are not part of China, and no, we are not an Islamic country), thus, I grew up learning to appreciate diversity in all facets of life. The same goes for my music – I try to keep the range of what I listen to as wide as possible, from Meshuggah to Tiësto, Vertical Horizon, K’Naan and Dave Grusin. Nonetheless, everything else pales in comparison to melodic death metal from the Nordic region, which remains my favourite type of music. Being recruited by Shockwave Magazine has just taught me how to experience music in a whole new way. I love writing; I love metal. Writing about metal? Possibly the most heavenly combination since the collaboration of In Flames and Pendulum, my favourite Swedish metal and DnB groups respectively. As a musician, I began playing the piano later than most overachieving Asian kids, at the age of 5, and picked up the drums in my teens; I am a drummer in a band, Decypher, which I formed with my brother. I am interested in way too many things for my own good and I’m glad that I’m at a point in life where I can pursue it all – breakdance, wine-tasting, DJ-ing, God - aside from my day job of surviving Hopkins, which thankfully hasn’t kept me from experiencing the Baltimore music scene to the max. On a side note, my favourite heroes are Batman and V, and vampires fascinate me, which means I am a diehard -Twilight.... no- True Blood/Underworld/Van Helsing fan.

Rob Kelly

Hello, my name is Rob, and I am a Capricorn. I enjoy classical music, long walks on the beach and occasionally horse back riding... Oops, wrong bio... My name is Rob and I like to party!(Hot Rod movie reference) I love music. I play the drums, I sing, I write poetry(no homo). Back when I was cool, I was in a kick-ass band called Weemal Deemal... WEEMAL DEEMAL! We played shows around Baltimore with some cool bands Like SpikeWrench, Monger, PH Low, The Springfields(S1ngleton), Misdirected, we opened for the Casualties, we ALMOST opened for the Bouncing Souls. We partied and had a great time while we were kids, the best was when my singer puked all over the nice punk rock girl who gave us a place to sleep in Philadelphia's front porch, and then I blew up the bathroom in the girls bedroom with some Southern Comfort morning shit... Good times. Anyway, I listen to bands ranging from NOFX, Rancid, Operation Ivy and the Bouncing Souls and Guttermouth, to bands like Incubus, Korn and the Deftones. As of late I have been focusing on playing the drums and starting a new project and writing for the magazine, meeting tons of cool people and having a great time in the process! I guess that's it, I don't have anything clever to write, or a long list of credentials, I'm just a kid from Baltimore, reppin' the D.U.P, Dundalk United Punks, who loves music and writing and has tons of free time. Pretty lame if you ask me. If I come up with anything else I will update this later... Oh Yeah, I Hate Strippers!!!

Here ya go, a bio...wth I am 37 years old and a major bitch, but not to everyone. I grew up in Federal Hill and Brooklyn so I am a city girl and it's where most of the people enjoyed the hip hop crap. How I managed to break free from that, the world may never know. I wasn't force fed the music I enjoy. I have met some hot ass band members and the bigger the band, the cooler they are. I don't have some interesting bio that will make you say *OMG* or *WOW* I am just being me. I enjoy mostly metal, and the normal rock and roll. The kind you can always find in a local dive bar. That's where you'll find me, supporting my favorite local bands. Oh btw, if you don't support local rock you're a loser. I believe that everything happens for a reason, thats why *Kix* is still around. After I show my band whore skills, I do love spending time with my children. My children have corrupted me with music as well. I do enjoy the Jonas Brothers. Yes the Jonas Brothers. Any band that can write their own music is remarkable in my eyes. I also am a nerd, so I am very smart. In fact I am so smart, I make smart people feel retarded. I attend school for writing because I enjoy it so much. anything that has to do with learning I enjoy. I believe If you don't have an open mind about things you will never succeed in life. I enjoy watching movies. My favorites are *Twilight* and The *Boondock Saints,* in that order, and I watch with extreme caution. These movies are like soft porn. So this is my bio and I am just a simple, no drama, rocker chick.

So, the story of me huh? This might take a minute so grab some popcorn and get comfy. Where to begin, well I began playing music at the age of 13, starting on guitar and then drums. I learned mostly from watching Metallica’s Live Shit Binge and Purge like movies, emulating the stance, the voice, the riffing of Mr. Hetfeild, and the beats and movements of Mr. Ulrich. Unfortunately for me, I discovered metal and hard rock a little late due to where I lived and went to school being a predominantly Rap and Hip Hop culture. My first albums I picked up were “ Load “ , “ Superunknown “ from Soundgarden , and “ Lost Highway “ sound track , mainly for the NIN track , that’s when I discovered a little band from Germany called Rammstein , and it took off from there . I then moved from the Waldorf MD area more north to Lothian located on the PG , AA county line , TOTALLY different world there , I joined my first band “ Dungeon of Agony “ as a vocalist , and later became guitarist . I played my first real concert March 5th of 2000, and it went on from there. I stuck with guitar most of the time , taking roles in bands such as “ Immortal Beloved “ “ Prelude to Dysfunction “ “ Difinistrate “ and “ Apoxia “ . That’s where the really stuff began, playing at clubs like The Thunderdome, opening for Dope and Drowning Pool. After that split I joined a project called “Still Unbroken” and really ran with the ball. We supported acts such as Kittie, Dope, Powerman 5000, Godhead, American Head Charge, and others. After that was over I went on to join a band on vocals again, and opened for the Misfits. Once that was over I finally found my nitch. Drums , were always kind of just another instrument I knew how to play and that didn’t really get serious till I joined a band called “ The Phoeniix “ . We had a really good run there though band member changes all the time killed that quickly. So I rejoined Still Unbroken under a new name M-Theory and that’s when I discovered Vince and SHOCKWAVE MAGAZINE. Mikey Rocha had always been a fan of Still Unbroken, but once that split we lost touch, then later reconnected and he told me about Shockwave. M-Theory was picked at the last minute to fill a canceled slot on the SUMMER BASH THINGIE show, got a good review so we stayed in touch . I went to a concert in NC called “ HEAVY REBEL WEEKENDER “ which was a rockabilly festival and made mention to Vince that I could write a hell of a story for SHOCKWAVE if I was a part of it , then BLAMO I was ha ha ha. I’ve played every major club in the Baltimore circuit and I’m friends with a ton of local bands including Dying Design , The Condemned , Cryptic Warning , Korupt , Split Five , and that’s just to name a few . I’ve been interviewed by every jock at 98rock since the “Mickey and Amelia Morning Show “era as I like to call it except Stash. So I’d like to think I’m pretty “IN” the scene around Baltimore though I could be wrong ha ha ha. I want to be the “ Musicians Journalist “ if you will , as I’m sure all of us here at SHOCKWAVE does by not asking dumb questions that no one cares about , or even questions that are asked a million times which I’m sure boars these people cause they are interviewed 50 times a day . I also hope to further my knowledge of the music industry. AND IM STOKED TO DO ALL THAT WITH MY NEW FAMILY AT SHOCKWAVE! “Mikey .. Get in the bag .. We’ve got a show to go to! “ THANKS FOR READING AND MAKE SURE YOU PICK UP A COPY OF SHOCKWAVE MAGAZINE ... AND BE A PART OF THE “BIG F’IN DEAL “!
