An Englishman, Irishman and Scotsman walk into a bar... Dearest readers, yes both of you! Hope you enjoyed my bitch fest last month, it had to be said. I'm sure you will enjoy my article on Tom Maxwell from Hellyeah in this issue and look out for their tour with Clutch starting this month. Check out the whole chat we had at the Shockwave website. I usually like to ask whomever we are chatting with if they have had that "star struck" experience and who was it with? For Tom it was Jimmy Page. This past month we were very lucky to be able to talk with Henry Rollins via phone and see his awesome spoken word show at Baltimore Soundstage. Huge thanks to his management who were so accommodating and easy to work with. And, of course, thanks to Henry for taking the time to chat and putting on a very entertaining show, the guy is smart and pretty damn funny and another hometown boy! We got to meet him after the show which was bonus! More on Henry next month. Oh and can I just say how much I love Joe Squared Pizza, their food and the people who work there! So cool! I really hope you got out to the Ottobar to see RQ play with his amazing band El Grande for our friends Knives Out CD release party. There's a really cool show coming up in May at The Wilcom's Inn in Monrovia, MD with El Grande, Knives Out and Philadelphia's Kingsnake. That show will absolutely kill! Also released in March was Jasmine Cain's new video for Highway Prophet, so go check it out if you haven't already. Internet radio show, My Show up in PA is now new and improved with the addition of live band performances! Undercover Steve Truglio debuted his new format with the one and only Atomic Bitchwax. If you want to check it out you can find all of the Shenanigans at www.facebook.com/itsmyshow Talking of Shenanigans, I found out in the past year that I have Irish blood. I've always been proud of my Anglo/Scot background but the addition of some green stuff really explains everything, it's all becoming clear to me now. That's a fucked up combo. So like most Americans who love to claim their Irish heritage, I decided this was the year to really celebrate St. Paddy's Day. I'm being really sarcastic here in case you didn't realize, I don't think you need a special day to drink, but hey the weather was beautiful and we sat outside for some great people watching. I managed to stay green with 8 Margaritas, 2 of which ended up in my lap and countless shots people kept bringing to our table. I hope that you are all supporting our local music scene; I know it's tough to get out these days, cost, time, etc. But hey, if you manage to make it to one show every month or so, then you are contributing to us poor musicians. Our own Cindy Parr's band Sweet Suicide is playing pretty regularly so go check em out if you get the chance. So we are off to L.A. with the kids for Spring Break, never been so I'm interested to check out the local music scene. Then we will be in Atlantic City April 14th for the Clutch/Hellyeah show at the House of Blues, love that place too! It's gonna be cool to see our MD friends sharing the same stage. Will report back next month! As always, you can catch up with us and our past columns/interviews/reviews at www.facebook.com/sidestage or chat with us directly at sidestage@shockwavemagazine.com Cheers! AQ! |
